The Significance of Flow Cytometric DNA Analysis and Argyrophilic Nucleolar

Abstract
The flow cytometric DNA analysis and the AgNORs staining method have been reported to reflect the cellular activities and the proliferative activities of normal and neoplastic cells. These method have been known to be useful for the diagnosis and
detection of the recurrence after therapy in various tumors.
For the evaluation of the proliferating activity in various types of gastric carcinomas, flow cytometric DNA analysis and AgNORs Stain were carreid out on 39 cases of paraffin embedded tissues(24 cases of tubular carcinoma, 7 cases of mucinous
carcinoma
and 8 cases of signet ring cell carcinoma).
@ES The results were summarized as follows.
@EN 1. In flow cytometric study, 19 cases of tubular carcinima (79.2%), 4 cases of mucinous carcinoma (57.1%), and 3 cases of signet ring cell carcinoma (37.5%) were aneuploidy. Diploidy pattern was observed in 5 cases of tubular carcinoma
(20.8%),
3
cases (42.9%) in mucinous carcinoma, and 5 cases (62.5%) in signet ring cell carcinoma.
2. Proliferation index was significantly different between carcinoma (1.2¡¾1.0). mucinous carcinoma (8.8¡¾13.5) and signet ring carcinoma(0.6¡¾0.4, p<0.005).
3. The means of AgNORs were 4.62¡¾1.73 in tubular carcinomas. 4.56¡¾1.56 in signet ring cell carcinomas, and 3.45¡¾1.53 in mucinous carcinomas, but significant difference was not observed.
Significant correlation was observed between proliferation index and wall invasion in gastric carcinomas, but Ag NORs staining was not correlated with proliferative activity and prognostic factors.
